Fall 2024 UConn ECE Chinese Workshop

On Friday, October 18th, UConn Early College Experience hosted a virtual professional development workshop for certified ECE Chinese teachers, under the guidance of Professor Chunsheng Yang, our ECE Faculty Coordinator for Chinese. Instructors connected via Webex and enjoyed a discussion on program development from Ms. Chunmei Guan of Logan High School in Indiana. Later on, Professor Zhiying Qian joined us from Florida State University, and led a fascinating talk about the emerging relationship between AI and Chinese language teaching.

On Friday, December 1stUConn Early College Experience, and the UConn ECE Faculty Coordinator from Chinese, Dr. George Yang met with certified ECE Chinese Instructors for their annual professional development workshop. Dr. Yang spoke to the group updates to the current CHIN 1114 course and plans for adding UConn’s CHIN 3210 and 3211 to UConn ECE’s course offerings in the near future. ECE Instructor Feng Xia from Amity High School discussed Chinese program development, and later the Instructors heard from Prof. Yu Wu, Associate Professor of Chinese from University of Rhode Island on Proficiency Oriented L2 Chinese:  Assessment: Objectives, Instruction, and Assessment.

On Friday, December 9th , UConn Early College Experience and the UConn ECE Faculty Coordinator for Chinese Associate Professor of Chinese and Applied Linguistics, George Yang met with ECE Certified Chinese Instructors for their annual professional development meeting. After a short welcome with some general questions from the group and a discussion about recruitment of additional instructors, keynote speaker Dr. Phyllis Ni Zhang, Associate Professor of Chinese and International Affairs, George Washington University joined the meeting to share her research: "Optimizing the L2 Hanzi Instruction: The Facilitating Role of Typing in L2 Chinese".

UConn Early College Experience Chinese Workshop and NACCL-32

On Friday September 18th UConn Early College Experience and the UConn ECE Chinese faculty invited all certified UConn ECE Chinese Instructors to attend their annual professional development meeting via Zoom. This year's meeting was held in conjunction with the 32nd North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics.

The theme of NACCL-32 is collaborativity and interdisciplinarity in Chinese linguistic studies.
