BUSN 2235: Personal Financial Literacy

Three credits ($150). Offered Fall, Spring, or Full-year.

Introduction to essential topics in personal finance for individuals and entrepreneurs. Financial literacy, personal finance topics including recordkeeping, budgeting, risk, insurance, credit, purchasing decisions, savings/investment options, income taxation of individuals and small businesses, and retirement savings.

Eligibility Guidelines: Successful completion of two years of high school mathematics is required.


Instructor Certification Requirements:

The minimum degree requirement for instructors wishing to teach UConn ECE Business courses can be met through the following options.  Minimally applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or a closely related field. Preferred applicants will have a Master’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or in a closely related field (as judged by the UConn BUSN Department).

A candidate with a Master’s Degree in Education may also be considered if coupled with a strong undergraduate program and appropriate teaching experience:

Option 1: Instructors have a Business or Accounting BA/BS degree and hold a teaching certification endorsed for either #010 Business (7-12) or #089 Marketing Education (7-12); or

Option 2: Instructors have a Mathematics, Accounting, or Finance BA/BS degree with relevant coursework and hold a teaching certification endorsed for #029 Mathematics (7-12); or

Option 3: Instructors have an Economics BA/BS degree with relevant coursework and hold a teaching certification endorsed for #025/#026 Social Studies (7-12).
