The Connecticut High School Ethics Bowl, hosted by the University of Connecticut, is a day-long event for student teams who are interesting in debating the most challenging ethical issues of our time. Teams consist of 3-7 students who are judged by experts on the breadth and depth of their thinking. This regional competition is a qualifier for participating in the National High School Ethics Bowl at UNC- Chapel Hill. Lunch is provided. This year’s event will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Avery Point Campus. A rain date is scheduled for Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Last year we had 450 attendees with 32 boats entered. This year, we have opened the event to 35 boats!!
If you and your class would like to be participants in this exciting and fun-filled race, please RSVP to Todd.Blodgett@uconn.edu. Registration for the event will be open until May 11th or until we have reached the maximum capacity of 35 boats.
New this year as well, at 12:00pm there will be a race for UConn ECE Instructors, UConn Faculty and Staff. So, if you would like to enter that race as well, just let us know. I have attached the agenda for the day.
The 2018 race will have a Superhero theme, so plan an exciting superhero boat and team!!!
Rules & Information:
- PFD’s are required for all students in boats. Limited PFDs are available so this year teams are required to bring their own PFDs.
- All boats must be made of just cardboard and duct tape.
- You may decorate the boat with paint, but none may appear on the bottom 6 inches of the boat.
- Boats must float with at least one person aboard.
- Kayak paddles may be used during the race. Paddles may be available at the race.
Race details and a full agenda will be provided when we are closer to the event. There will be press at this event so please ensure all students and their parents are aware and a photo waiver is collected. Don’t want to build a boat? Every race needs an audience so come watch the race and cheer on your favorite boat(s)! This year is sure to be an exciting time.
