7th Annual UConn Avery Point Cardboard Boat Race
Wednesday, September 20, 2017, 10:00-2:00
In celebration of the UConn Avery Point’s 50th anniversary, this year’s event aspires to be bigger and better than ever. There will not only be participants from select UConn Early College Experience classes, but students, faculty, and staff from the Avery Point Campus, as well as from Electric Boat, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Navy.
If you and your class would like to be participants in this exciting and fun-filled race, please RSVP to Wendi.email@example.com. Registration for the event will be open until May 12th or until we have reached the maximum capacity of 30 boats.
Rules & Information:
- PFD’s are required for all students in boats. Limited PFDs are available so this year teams are required to bring their own PFDs.
- All boats must be made of just cardboard and duct tape (a starter kit will be provided by the UConn ECE office).
- You may decorate the boat with paint, but none may appear on the bottom 6 inches of the boat.
- Boats must float with at least one person aboard.
- Kayak paddles may be used during the race. Paddles may be available at the race.
Race details and a full agenda will be provided when we are closer to the event. There will be press at this event so please ensure all students and their parents are aware and a photo waiver is collected. Don’t want to build a boat? Every race needs an audience so come watch the race and cheer on your favorite boat(s)! This year is sure to be an exciting time.
