Florence Marsal, Ph.D. is an assistant professor in French.
Her research focuses on 20th Century French literature and
culture as well as Medieval French literature. Dr. Marsal
has taught a variety of courses in literary topics as well
as in phonetics and grammar.
Course Offerings
FREN 3267 - Grammar and Culture
- Either semester. Three credits. Recommended preparation:
FREN 1164 or 1175 or three years of high school French or
consent of instructor. May not be taken concurrently with
French 3268.
- The study of French and Francophone culture through fiction,
non-fiction, journalism and film. Emphasis on perfecting
both oral and written expression through discussion, presentations,
and composition on assigned topics.
FREN 3268W - Grammar and Composition
- Either semester. Three credits. Recommended preparation:
FREN 1164 or 1175 or three years of high school French or
consent of instructor. May not be taken concurrently with
French 3267.
- Advanced study of French texts and extensive written
practice in a variety of forms ranging from compositions,
essays, summaries and film reviews.

Please remember, certified instructors who did not attend the 2008 French Workshop are required to attend the 2009 workshop in order to maintain certification.

- Q: What are the minimum requirements for instructor certification in French?
- A: The minimum degree requirement for instructors wishing
to teach UConn Early College Experience French courses is a Master's
of Arts degree in French; however, a candidate with Master's
in Education and sufficiently strong French background
may be considered. The instructor should also regularly attend
proficiency workshops (regional, national) or have experience
(ongoing or at intervals) with a French-speaking country.
Candidates will have to schedule an interview with the
faculty coordinator before certification.
- Q. What is the final summative assessment, for
UConn FREN 268W?
- A. A five-page paper in recognizable French.
